Noida International Airport (NIA) has partnered with Indraprastha Gas (IGL) to develop Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure at the airport, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable and efficient transportation solutions.

As part of the collaboration, IGL will establish two CNG stations — one in the west precinct and second one in the airside area — to cater to travellers, airport staff and partners.

IGL will be responsible for the development of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network at NIA, ensuring seamless connectivity to and from the CNG stations.

Pipeline infrastructure

The partnership also includes the establishment of a pipeline infrastructure for the supply of piped natural gas (PNG) to various F&B outlets, lounges and kitchens in the terminal and ancillary airport buildings.

Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of NIA, said: “Our collaboration with IGL marks another step in our journey towards building a sustainable and future-ready airport. By integrating CNG infrastructure, we are providing cleaner fuel alternatives to airport users while supporting the broader transition to greener mobility in the region.”

The initiative aligns with NIA’s vision of creating an environmentally-responsible and energy-efficient airport, offering sustainable mobility solutions for passengers, employees and partners.

In its first phase, with one runway and one terminal, the airport will have the capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually. Upon completion of the fourth phase, the airport will be equipped to manage 70 million passengers per year, making it a major hub for the region.
