Tamil Nadu has urged the Centre to expedite the clearance to the proposal for reconstitution of the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) and the State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) as their current tenure is getting over in April 2025. It also sought the Centre clearances and funding for several Tamil Nadu Projects.
Tamil Nadu Environment and Climate Change Minister Thangam Thennarasu on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav in this regard, says a government press release.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had made a request to the Union Environment Ministry to exempt Environmental Clearance for industrial sheds with area up to 1,50,000 sq m. to expedite industrial development in the State. A Notification in this regard was brought out by the Ministry accepting the request of the Tamil Nadu Government.
Tamil Nadu has already submitted a proposal to the Ministry to set up an additional SEAC to provide speedy clearances to growing number of infrastructure and development projects in the state of Tamil Nadu. The Union Minister assured to provide speedy clearance to the proposal of the Government of Tamil Nadu. Halt sea erosion
Thoothukudi district already submitted to the Ministry under the National Action Plan on Climate Change and Green India Mission at a cost of ₹28 crore. The project aims to halt sea erosion in several coastal areas in the district through nature-based solutions.
Tamil Nadu government also submitted a comprehensive project to the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority, functioning under MoEF&CC at a cost of ₹74 crore for relocating Thengumarahada village from the buffer area of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve located in the Nilgiris District. A request was made to sanction the project expeditiously given the importance of Tiger conservation in that area and the frequent human wildlife conflict endangering safety of the local community, the release said.
