Elon Musk’s cost-cutting turmoil, as described by your columnist Richard Waters (“How to understand Musk’s frantic offensive”, Opinion, FT Weekend, February 15), has something in common with Robespierre, one of the most influential and controversial figures of the French Revolution who went on a cutting spree of a different kind.
Musk would be wise to keep in mind that revolutionary zealots sometimes end up being victims of their own machinery.
