To enhance its presence in the international long-distance market segment, airline major IndiGo on Wednesday said that it has entered into a new agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways for damp lease (leased aircraft accompanied by crew) of three more Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Earlier this month, the airline had entered into another agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways for damp lease of one Boeing 787-9 aircraft. IndiGo plans to deploy this aircraft on the Delhi-Bangkok route from March 1, 2025.
On the additional three damp-leases, the airline major pointed out that these aircraft are expected to arrive in the second half of 2025 and “will be serving long-haul routes out of India”.
Besides, IndiGo said that it will continue to explore opportunities with Norse to broaden the cooperation and possibility for contracting more aircraft.
Going a long way
According to the airline’s Chief Executive Pieter Elbers, the enhanced partnership with Norse Atlantic Airways will help IndiGo to make strategic inroads and establish the brand in the European market.
“As we execute our broader strategy to strengthen and extend our international network, we are steadily advancing towards our vision of becoming a global player by 2030, firmly rooted in India and driven by continuous expansion,” he was quoted as saying in a statement.

As per IndiGo, the initial term of the latest agreement is six months, extendable to up to 18 months, subject to regulatory approvals.
“Both parties remain committed to explore opportunities to further extend this period, subject to regulatory approvals. IndiGo and Norse will continue exploring opportunities to contract additional aircraft and increase their collaboration further,” the statement read.
Furthermore, IndiGo said that it is consistently expanding its global footprint with an aim to cater to the growing demand for international travel to and from India.
