Gillian Tett sets out “five ways to fix the knowledge crisis” (Opinion, January 25). However, her point about “why public grievance has exploded” needs to apply to what is happening in many EU countries and is happening or will happen in the UK.

Here, the Labour government never asks why people are turning away or why they’re switching to the right-leaning Reform UK party or indeed watching GB News. Voters want to hear more sides of the story — more information, more truth and less cover up or waffle. And more action (quickly).

Hence, like him or loathe him, people find Donald Trump’s quick actions “refreshing” and statements that don’t follow the norm “exciting”. So until the stale old parties take note and do what the people really want and listen to them then they have no future and right-leaning parties will prevail.

Keeping to the status quo is no longer an option for mainstream parties in the EU or the UK. Change will happen . . . unless . . .
