A car ploughed into a group of people in the German city of Mannheim on Monday, police said, killing at least one person and injuring several more.
Mannheim police said that a suspect had been arrested after the incident and that they had launched a huge operation in the centre of the south-western city.
Authorities did not immediately say whether they believed the incident was a deliberate attack.
Germany has suffered a string of fatal assaults in recent months, including a car ramming in Munich in February and a similar incident in Magdeburg at the end of December. There have also been a series of stabbings, including one in Mannheim in May 2024.
