With re-releases witnessing strong traction on the big screen, PVR INOX said it will remain a staple among its content offerings as part of a strategic focus. The cinema chain expects re-releases to contribute 5-6 per cent of overall annual revenues in the next fiscal. The multiplex chain is also banking on improvement in box office performance with a stronger content line-up in Hindi and Hollywood content slate in the coming months.

Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director, PVR INOX told businessline, “We haven’t even scratched the surface in terms of tapping the potential of re-releases. We may have started showcasing re-releases because of lack of content but now this initiative is led by a full-fledged team. The team is actively looking at what kind of re-releases we can showcase and scheduling them based on active social listening and consumer feedback. We will continue to do curated re-releases going forward. Besides Hindi movies, there is a massive pool of Hollywood movies that have the potential to be re-released on the big screen.”

He added that during FY25 about 3 per cent of revenues came from re-releases. “I think in the next fiscal, we expect the share of re-releases to increase to 5-6 per cent of revenues,” Bijli explained.

The multiplex chain is now betting big on the strong content line-up across Hindi as well as Hollywood flicks. “In FY25, there were fewer movies that were released and became successful. With a strong content line-up this year, we believe the pie of Hindi cinema will increase in 2025,” Bijli stated. According to estimates by Ormax, the Hindi cinema’s share to overall box office declined to 40 per cent in 2024 from 44 per cent in 2023.

In March, the content line-up includes Salman Khan starrer Sikandar and John Abraham starrer the Diplomat, Kingston and Robinhood. The cinema chain will also be showcasing international flicks including Mickey 17, Presence, The Day The Earth Blew Up (A Looney Tunes Movie), In the Lost Lands, Snow White, Locked, Black Bag and Working Man. Curated Re-releases include Lootera, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, Road, Kumbalangi Nights, Sairat , Lamhe, The Karate Kid (1984) besides Oscar contenders showcase.
