Bihar, home to nearly 90 per cent of the world’s production, has seen both its output and employment opportunities expand as a result of this rapidly developing sector; estimates put makhana revenue at more than ₹100.3 billion annually and generate hundreds of thousands or millions in returns annually from it in Bihar alone—providing agricultural advancement with economic benefits while simultaneously alleviating poverty while expanding livelihoods through makhana production.

As a matter of fact, makhana farming generates around 500,000 employment opportunities solely in the state of Bihar. Farmers, harvesters, processors, traders, and others together constitute this industry that offers essential rural employment, therefore boosting local economies and lowering migration towards cities.
