Sultan al-Jaber, previously president of COP28 but now de-greenwashed, is “keen for the world to get to know him better”. Jaber, who runs the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) was speaking at the CERAWeek Texas energy conference where, according to your reporter, “Big Oil has got its swagger back in the Trump era” (Interview, Life & Arts, March 15).
So when Amin Nasser, head of Saudi Aramco, told the conference “we can all feel the winds of history in our industry’s sails again”, Jaber is fully on board, though knowing full well it is those same winds, laden with CO2,
that turn into devastating storms, fan fires, drive tornadoes and fuel the extreme weather events now leaving millions in misery and our planet facing existential chaos.
I can only assume when Jaber says: “I never allowed my emotions to get in the way,” he reveals something else all those at that energy conference share.
