Blenders, upcountry support push tea sales at Coonoor auctions

Better activity from blenders and upcountry buyers has helped increase the sales percentage at the Coonoor Tea auctions.

The offered quantity in sale no 8 in leaf was 1322505 kg, witnessing a sales percentage of 90, while in dust grades it was 370488 kg, with 96 per cent sales. Despite improved sales, the market was down by Rs 1-2, traders said.

Global Tea Auctioneers said the high-priced and better liquoring sorts were lower by Rs 2 to 3. The better medium sorts were lower by Rs 1 to 2, and mediums and plainer sorts and bolder grades had fair demand and sold steady to dearer by Rs 1 to 2.

In leaf orthodox, the primary whole leaf grades were lower by Rs 3 to 4, and occasionally some quality lots sold dearer by Rs 3 to 4. The primary brokens were barely steady to occasionally dearer by Rs 1 to 2.

The high priced and better liquoring sorts in CTC dust saw fair demand and sold steady to dearer by Rs 4 to 5 and more, at times in line with quality. The better medium sorts were fully firm to dearer by Rs 1 to 2. Generally, fair demand was noticed overall in the CTC dust sale.

The primary orthodox dust grades had fair demand and sold dearer by Rs 8 to 10, and much more at times.
