Maharatna defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed an agreement with Collins Aerospace, an associate of US-based company RTX, to establish a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at its accessories complex in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
The agreement will enable the facility to provide repair and overhaul on electrical power generation systems for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mark 1, a statement from RTX, formerly Raytheon Technologies Corporation, said on the deal that took place at the ongoing Aero India 2025 at Bengaluru.
Separately, the HAL also inked an MOU with Swedish Aerospace Corporation (Saab) to collaborate on the Electronic Warfare land Laser Warning System-310 (LWS-310). Saab said that the MOU provides for a Maintenance Transfer of Technology, which would allow the HAL to gain the capability to manufacture LWS-310 within India. This includes setting up necessary infrastructure, training programmes and transferring technical expertise from Saab to HAL to ensure long-term support for the system.
Safran contracts Titan for turbine
Safran Aircraft Engines, a French engine manufacturer, and Titan Engineering and Automation Ltd signed a contract at the Aero India for the production of parts for the Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion engine’s low-pressure turbine.
Production of the first parts will start in 2026 as part of the “Make in India” policy of the Indian government.
Safran Aircraft Engines is developing a complete industrial ecosystem in India backed by major Indian partners to support the ramp-up of Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion (LEAP) production as well as the M88 engine powering the Rafale, Safran said in a release.
HENSOLDT taps into defence opportunities
HENSOLDT, the German defence company, has tied up with two different Indian companies to explore opportunities for airborne and sensor solutions here.
HENSOLDT Avionics signed an MOU with SAMTEL Avionics (SA) to explore possibilities of establishing a co-production facility in India through an Industrial partnership for the German company’s products – “LCR 100, Cavi Sight and Cavi Connect.”
In another development, Raphe mPhibr, India’s largest UAV manufacturer, has joined hands with HENSOLDT to co-develop cutting-edge landing aid radar based on Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology for next-generation aviation platforms.
Bharat Forge & VEDA develop UAV
Bharat Forge Ltd (BFL) and VEDA Aeronautics (P) Ltd (VEDA) have signed a MOU to develop state-of-the-art UAV and other High-Speed Aerial Weapon systems used in the battlefield. While VEDA has been engaged in shaping the unmanned system technology for defence services, BFL will supply the micro jet engines used in these unmanned systems.
