The Terminal 1 (T1) of the national capital’s IGI Airport will resume full operations from April 15, 2025, said Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).
Presently, DIAL operates and manages the IGI Airport.
As part of this transition, DIAL said that all flights currently operating from Terminal 2 (T2) will be relocated to T1.
Currently, Terminal 2 handles approximately 270-280 air traffic movements and serves over 46,000 passengers per day, primarily from Akasa Air and IndiGo airlines.
The move coincides with DIAL’s plans to refurbish T2, which will be closed for four to six months in the next financial year.
The shift DIAL cited is a key milestone in Delhi Airport’s ongoing modernisation efforts, designed to maintain world-class services.
It said that the expansion and modernisation of T1 have been completed as part of the airport’s Phase 3A expansion project.
The expanded integrated Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport was dedicated to the nation in March last year.
However, full operations were suspended due to an accident at the departure area of the terminal when heavy rains caused a part of the outer roof of the building to collapse.
“We are committed to maintaining seamless operations throughout this transition and ensuring that every passenger continues to receive the highest level of service and comfort,” DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said on Thursday.
“This move aligns with our vision of transforming Delhi Airport into a state-of-the-art aviation hub that meets the evolving needs of travelers.”
In terms of features, the T1 is equipped with 108 Common Usage Self-Service (CUSS) kiosks, 20 Automated Tray Retrieval Systems (ATRS) and facial recognition system (DIGIYATRA) at all entry gates.
As per DIAL, Delhi Airport will be India’s only airport to have the capacity to handle over 100 million passengers annually.
Delhi Airport’s three terminals – T1 can accommodate 40 million passengers per year, while T2 can handle 15 million, and Terminal 3 (T3) 45 million.
