Himanshu Pathak, former Union Secretary of the Department of Agriculture Research and Education, has assumed charge as the Director-General of the Hyderabad-based International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).
Addressing a gathering after taking over as the institute’s Director General, he acknowledged both the challenges and opportunities ahead as “ICRISAT strengthens its mission to build agricultural resilience in dryland regions, navigating the impacts of climate change, population growth, and evolving dynamics in development funding”.
“By prioritising frontier science and deepening collaboration with our partners, the institute will continue developing transformative agri-food solutions that not only withstand global challenges but also create lasting prosperity for future generations,” Pathak, who also served as the Director-General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), said.
Dr Pathak’s tenure follows a period of transition led by Stanford Blade, who served as Director General–Interim.
