India Energy Week (IEW), the country’s flagship oil and gas sector event, is expected to witness the launch of the tenth bidding round of the Open Acreage Licensing Programme (OALP), which could witness ONGC and BP jointly bidding for offshore fields.
IEW 2025, which will span over 1 lakh sq meters, will be the second-largest energy event, globally, in terms of participation from Ministers and top CEOs from the oil and gas sector, exhibition space, sessions etc, after the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC).
“IEW will see participation of 20 ministerial level participants, Foreign Ministers and Deputy Ministers. We have them from Qatar, the UK, Russia, Brazil, Tanzania and Venezuela. Besides, heads of international organisations such as OPEC and IEA as well as 90 CEOs from Fortune 500 energy companies,” Oil Minister H S Puri told reporters.
The Minister hinted at launching the next OALP round at the IEW 2025. “We’re hoping to do the 10th round during this thing,” he added.
Besides, crude oil exporting consortium OPEC and the International Energy Agency (IEA) will launch their oil and gas insights on the world’s third largest energy consumer, which indicates India’s growing importance as an energy consumer.
At IEW 2024, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has launched a report on the oil outlook till 2030 in the world’s third largest energy consumer.
As countries seek to secure stable energy supplies while transitioning to sustainable and green energy sources, IEW 2025 will serve as a pivotal meeting point for discussing these challenges and opportunities, the Minister said.
Compelling themes in the 2025 edition including energy security, just & orderly energy transition, collaboration, resilience, energy transition, capacity building, innovation, and digital advancements will be discussed to providepractical solutions for decarbonisation, promoting energy equity, and advancing low-carbon economies.
Highlighting key metrics on IEW 2025, Puri said there is a 65 per cent increase in exhibition space over 2024 (28,000 sq meters), 105 conference sessions (15 per cent higher than 2024 and 24 per cent higher than 2023).
The event will see participation from over 70,000 delegates (55 per cent higher than 2024 and 89 per cent higher than 2023), 500 speakers (38 per cent higher than 2024 and 58 per cent higher than 2023) and over 700 exhibitors (57 per cent higher than 2024 and 115 per cent higher than 2023).
The Minister said that on the sidelines of IEW 2025, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) will host a Clean Cooking Ministerial, bringing together global policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to accelerate the transition to clean cooking solutions.
The event will showcase India’s success with the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) as a model for global adoption. It aims to foster international collaboration, drive policy discussions, and facilitate technology sharing to ensure clean, affordable, and accessible cooking energy for households worldwide.
