Rajkot recorded highest maximum (day) temperature of 42.1°C on Wednesday as searing heat wave conditions enveloped Gujarat and parts of Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Odisha and Konkan & Goa, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said.
Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions may continue to rule over parts of Gujarat today (Thursday), and over Vidarbha both Thursday and Friday. They may gradually propagate towards East and North-East India next, and stay put over Odisha for four days; and Jharkhand and plains of West Bengal for three days from Friday.
Mercury levels soar
Maximum temperatures were in the range of 40-42°C over many places in Gujarat and at isolated places over Rajasthan and Vidarbha on Wednesday; 38-40°C over over Odisha and Konkan & Goa; 36-38°C over many places over Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, southern Peninsular India; at isolated places over Jharkhand, plains of West Bengal and Chhattisgarh. The day maxima rose by 4-6°C above normal at many places over in Gujarat as well as solated places in Vidarbha
North-West India cools
A western disturbance helped cool down things a bit over parts of adjoining North-West India after it continued to moved in from west Iran to set up a perch over west Afghanistan this (Thursday) morning, and watched over an offspring cyclonic circulation over south-west Rajasthan that played the better part in moderating weather over the region.
Mercury fell by 1-3℃ over parts of Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, north Konkan, South Interior Karnataka, Puducherry, Sikkim, and the North-Eastern states. It rose a bit by 1-2℃ over Srinagar; Ladakh; Himachal Pradesh; Uttarakhand, remaining Uttar Pradesh; interior Maharashtra; Telangana; Andhra Pradesh; North Interior Karnataka; Andhra Pradesh; Madhya Pradesh; Chhattisgarh; Odisha; Jharkhand; Bihar, West Bengal; and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Rain, thunderstorms
The western disturbance will trigger fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall, thunderstorms and lightning over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh for four more days until Sunday; and scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall to snowfall, thunderstorms and lightning over Uttarakhand for three days.
Isolated light to moderate rainfall is likely over Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, and over East Uttar Pradesh on Saturday and Sunday. Thunderstorms may also roam Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and West Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
Busy in East, North-East
A cyclonic circulation over East Bangladesh joined a counterpart over east Assam with a trough running north-south across Assam and Myanmar. The threesome may bring very heavy falls to Arunachal Pradesh today (Thursday) and isolated heavy rainfall over Assam & Meghalaya. Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is likely on Thursday and Friday and later on Sunday and Monday.
Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall, thunderstorms and lightning are likely Arunachal Pradesh for until Saturday. Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (40-50 km/hr) are likely over Assam & Meghalaya today and thunderstorms and lightning over hills West Bengal and Sikkim
Similar conditions will prevail over Assam & Meghalaya for three days from Friday; over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on Friday and Saturday; and thunderstorms and lightning over hills of West Bengal & Sikkim on Friday. Squally winds (50-60 km/hr), almost measuring up to those of a monsoon depression, are likely over parts of Tripura today (Thursday).
