Indian businesses consider security most important aspect in cloud sovereignty: Capgemini

Over half of the Indian businesses surveyed by Capgemini on aspects of cloud sovereignty they considered most important said they considered security as the most important point.

Security was considered the important aspect by 61 per cent of the surveyed companies while ‘ownership’ was a close-second element, backed by 60 per cent of businesses. This is because ownership implies that the producer/owner retains control and ownership of data. Further, 54 per cent of surveyed Indian B2B organisations rated transparency, cloud data location and interoperability, as important elements of cloud sovereignty. Meanwhile, sovereignty of ecosystem and portability were rated as important elements by 53 per cent of companies. 51 per cent companies prioritised operational resilience.

The report also discussed how organisations plan to implement virtualisation technologies in the next 1-2 years. In fact, many companies expected these technologies from their telecom service providers, with 64 per cent organisations expecting TSPs to provide Virtualized RAN (vRAN), 57 per cent companies expecting Cloud-Native Network Functions (CNFs). In comparison, only 57-59 per cent of global B2B organisations voiced such expectations, said the report. Further, 51 per cent of surveyed organisations expect Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Cloud RAN (C-RAN) from their telecom providers.

Aside from cloud, Indian organisations will also invest in enhanced 5G and end-to-end IoT services from telecom providers over the same period of time. 60 per cent of companies talked about enhanced 5G services such as network slicing, ultra-reliable low latency communications with 54 per cent expecting Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) from their telecom providers.
