Donald Trump (Report, March 14) wrote that tariffs on EU alcohol imports would be “great for the Wine and Champagne businesses in the US”.

If he serves American sparkling wine to French guests at Mar-a-Lago or the White House he should be careful. The French are very jealous of their regional names and fermentation methods. They are also a nuclear power.

Only American brands marketed before 2006 are allowed to refer to themselves as Champagne. In the past there have been Trump Steaks, Trump Neckties, even a Trump Bible. But there will probably never be a Trump Champagne.
