I was delighted to see in Maria Shollenbarger’s cover story on Cairo’s Belle Époque buildings (“Rebirth on the Nile”, House & Home, February 22) that Groppi’s is still going strong.
For years my father reminisced fondly about the ice-creams he had there in the 1940s while on army leave from Mandate Palestine, so I was delighted to visit after the Arab Spring in 2012.
Long may it flourish in the reborn city.
