Headwinds ahead

When our economy is navigating narrow straits as most other economies today, the periodic swings in sectoral performances tend to blur the larger picture.

There was little reason to be circumspect in substantially expanding the infra outlay in this Budget. As the rise in consumption boosts the economy, private capex addition would have followed in tandem to meet demand and the government outlay on capital account.

HAL’s progress

This refers to the report ‘HAL order book to touch ₹2.5 lakh cr in FY26: CMD’ (February 12). HAL is one of India’s pioneering PSUs and until ago it probably did not get the required government support.

Now HAL has asserted its position among competitors across the world and the country is proud of the achievements.

Human rights first

It is with reference to the article ‘Boost to human rights’, (February 12). A large number of human rights violation are in the area of abuse of Police powers, particularly those of arrest and detention.

Police educators and trainers must be equipped to provide correct human rights education to the police officials. Prompt departmental action is a must against errant police officers for violating NHRC guidelines.

Pension push

This is with reference to the article “Atal Pension Yojana grows 29% annually” (February 12). The APY, a flagship scheme of the Central Government, needs to be pushed among people working in the unorganised sector.

That only four states account for 48 per cent of total enrolments shows that the scheme has not been given wide coverage by the government and the banks. Banks must play a big role in propagating this scheme.

Various modes of communication like social media, Television, newspapers should be extensively used to build awareness of the scheme.

On their part, the ordinary citizens can push the scheme to people who work for them — drivers, domestic help, and local small businesses.
