The golden jubilee song of New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) was released by the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, at Chintan Shivir organized by ministry in Srinagar on Thursday.

New Mangalore Port, Karnataka’s maritime gateway, was inaugurated in January 1975. From handling one lakh tonnes initially, it is now handling 46 million tonnes annually.

According to NMPA, the golden jubilee song is a musical tribute to the 50-year journey of the port, capturing its evolution from a mere roadstead to a major shipping hub. The song resonates with the spirit of progress, development, and cultural heritage of the region encapsulated through rich lyrical expressions and a fusion of traditional and contemporary music.

The golden jubilee celebrations of NMPA will include a series of events throughout the year. NMPA proposes to inaugurate a 150-bed port hospital (being developed on PPP model), and release a commemorative stamp, a commemorative coin, and a coffee table book. Various port developmental projects and corporate social responsibility initiatives benefiting the local community will also be launched.

The Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shantanu Thakur; the Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, TK Ramachandran; and the NMPA Chairman, AV Ramana, were present on the occasion.
