NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) has partnered with Singapore-based HitPay to expand Unified Payments Interface (UPI) acceptance across Singapore, the companies announced yesterday.

The collaboration aims to provide Indian travellers with a familiar payment experience in Singapore through QR code-based transactions. The service will be progressively rolled out to over 12,000 merchants across tourist attractions, restaurants, and retail outlets.

With 1.2 million Indian visitors to Singapore in 2024, the partnership seeks to offer a convenient payment option for travellers while creating new opportunities for Singaporean businesses to serve Indian consumers.

“We are focused on expanding UPI’s global presence to make transactions easier for Indians traveling abroad,” said Ritesh Shukla, CEO of NPCI International. “This collaboration highlights our commitment to building a globally connected payments ecosystem.”

HitPay, a full-stack payments infrastructure company licensed in six jurisdictions including Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, will integrate UPI into its existing payment solutions.

This partnership represents another step in UPI’s international expansion, strengthening its position in the global digital payments landscape while enhancing economic ties between India and Singapore.
