Sir Tim Berners-Lee (“Let’s knock down the walled gardens of social media”, Opinion, March 17) writes of his ambition “to make these data insights accessible to everyone via artificial intelligence agents”. That sounds like a forlorn hope unless we have a foolproof, verifiable mechanism for validating the accuracy of the data on which AI is trained.
Two thousand years ago Pontius Pilate asked Jesus: “What is truth?” In today’s world of increasingly unmoderated and unverifiable dissemination of what passes for data, that question seems ever more relevant.
