Social media shapes Gen Z travel plans

Scrolling through social media has become Gen Z’s go-to for travel inspiration, leaving traditional recommendations behind. Google searches travel blogs, and vlogs follow closely behind, according to a survey by Agoda.

Apart from being tech-savvy, the generation is also mindful of the expenses, with 64 per cent of young travelers aiming to keep accommodation costs under ₹4,200 per person per night, while 24 per cent are willing to stretch between ₹4,200 and ₹8,400, the report notes.

The survey revealed that beach and island retreats are the top choices, with Gen-Z travellers. Over 30 per cent of them book their flights less than a week in advance, while 44 per cent make last-minute hotel reservations. In contrast, millennials are in favour of beach holidays, with 29 per cent choosing beaches versus 18 per cent preferring mountains.

Unlike Millennials, who prioritise family trips, Gen Z travelers prefer exploring the world with a partner (41 per cent). Group trips with friends (23 per cent) and family vacations (11 per cent) also rank high.
