Sweden is reinforcing its ties with India with a new office in Mumbai – its third overall – to boost trade and investment between the two countries.
Sweden’s foreign minister Maria Malmer Stenergard opened Business Sweden’s Mumbai office on Monday signalling the Nordic country’s heightened focus on Asia. Business Sweden already has offices in Delhi and Bengaluru.
The office opening also solidifies India’s status as a key partner of Sweden and comes as India negotiates a free trade agreement with the European Union.
Prior to her Mumbai visit, Stenergard participated in the Raisina dialogue and met commerce minister Piyush Goyal to discuss new avenues of co-operation.
Nearly 300 Swedish companies have a presence in India and more than 70 Indian companies have invested in Sweden generating 7,000 direct jobs.
“Interest in India is immense and we are now in an even stronger position to support Swedish companies in unlocking business opportunities across key areas such as healthcare, infrastructure, green transition and manufacturing. At the same we can assist more Indian companies in investing in Sweden to create new jobs at home,” said Sofia Högman, Trade Commissioner and Country Director, Business Sweden.
