The Telangana government has announced that it will soon come out with a new cybersecurity policy and digital security policy to ensure a good cybersecurity ecosystem.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of SHIELD 2025, a two-day cybersecurity conclave here on Tuesday, Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu said that the State government would set up a Cyber Defence Centre.
The conference is being organised by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB), Cyberabad Police, and the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC).
During the inauguration, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy virtually launched Cyber Fusion Centre (CFC), which integrates intelligence for proactive cybercrime prevention. He also launched a Child Protection Unit (CPU) dedicated to combating online child exploitation and ensuring digital safety for children, apart from unveiling the Security Operations Centre (SOC) – a real-time threat monitoring and response centre for the State.
Over 900 stakeholders, representing the law enforcement agencies, industry, academia, NGOs, banking, and financial services attended the conference.
Addressing the gathering, CM Reddy said that the State aspired to become number one in the country in the cybersecurity space. “Digital safety is important for the future of the State. People lost a staggering ₹22,812 crore to cyber fraud last year across the country,” he said.
“It has become a big threat to the economy. Fake news, misinformation, and deepfake are also causing severe damage to society. We are working with experts, and IT companies to build a robust cybersecurity system,” he said.
“Cyber crimes, unlike conventional crimes can be committed from anywhere and anytime. It is very tough to nab the criminals as they operate from different parts of the world. The law-enforcement agencies and all stakeholders must work together to face this challenge,” he said.
