Shares of Bajaj Finance, BPCL, SBI Life, Larsen & Turbo and NTPC led the gainers of Nifty 50 components.
While, IndusInd, Infosys, Trent, Bajaj Finserv and Hindalco dipped.
The broader indices rallied after showcasing a declining trend in earlier trade .Sensex jumped 657.60 pts or 0.86 per cent to touch 77,005.66 as at 12.45 pm, and Nifty 50 rose 192.25 pts or 0.83 per cent to 23,382.90. Nifty mid & smallcap IT & telecom stocks soared, while Nifty consumer durables & metal indices dipped.
Top gainers & losers
Bajaj Finance led the gainers with 3.07 per cent increase to trade at ₹8,946.25, due to leadership changes. The stock also hit a 52-week high of ₹9,089.
Bharat Petroleum followed with a 2.62 per cent gain to ₹279.26. SBI Life gained 2.57 per cent to ₹1,536.85.
L&T shares rose 2.46 per cent on the NSE to ₹3,433.55 and NTPC shares were up 2.41 per cent to ₹350 .L&T shares were in focus on securing a large order. The board is set to consider fund-raising at its meeting today.
On the flip side, banking major IndusInd fell 1.35 per cent to ₹674.85.
Infosys declined by 1.08 per cent to ₹1,598.15. IT stocks felt some stress in early trade following Accenture’s Q2 results.
Trent shares dipped 0.84 per cent to ₹5,177.65.
Bajaj Finserv and Hindalco dropped 0.76 per cent and 0.67 per cent, respectively.
Of all the 2,828 stocks that were traded on the NSE, 2,149 advanced and 605 declined.
IGIL, KPI Green, Senco Gold, Zaggle were among the major stocks that hit upper circuit today.
Meanwhile, Bajaj Finance, Manappuram Finance, Avanti Feeds and Kotak Mahindra were some major stocks that scaled to hit 52-week highs.
On the BSE, Tejas Networks led the gainers with 15.25 per cent increase to ₹818.30. Jupiter Wagons jumped 11.87 per cent and HCC surged 11.75 per cent at the time of writing.
